Two in court after boy run over and attacked

A 17-year-old boy is one of two people due in court after a teenager was reportedly struck by a car and assaulted.

According to North Yorkshire Police, the victim was taken to hospital with a broken ankle after the incident in King Edward Road, Ripon, at about 20:00 GMT on Sunday.

A 21-year-old man and the 17-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, will appear at York Magistates' Court later.

The older defendant has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of an electric shock, while the boy has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both had initially been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.
