Elections to take place for five local authorities

Five local authority elections will take place on 24 April

Voters in five areas will get the chance to go to the polls in April's Isle of Man local authority general election.

Elections will take place in Castletown, Douglas South Ward, Patrick, Peel and Ramsey South Ward.

Of the remaining districts 18 saw members fill all the available seats unopposed, while five authorities failed to attract enough candidates and will have to hold by-elections at a later date.

There are 21 local authorities on island - Arbory and Rushen, Douglas, Garff and Ramsey are split into wards - and elections take place every four years, with the latest set to be held on 24 April.

Those living in an area due to have a contested election will be sent polling cards and more information ahead of the the elections.

Contested elections

Castletown (seven seats)

Nine candidates have been nominated: Tony Brown, Beth Cannan, John Cringle, William Galley, Colin Leather, Alan Leonard, Mahendrakumar Patel, Carol Quine and Laurence Watterson

Douglas South Ward (one seat)

Four candidates have been nominated: Steven Crellin, David Cretney, Karel Ver Elst and William Smedley

Patrick (five seats)

Six candidates have been nominated: Robert Anderson, Henry Bridson, Gordon Clague, Paul Craker, Leo Cussons and Simon Mellor

Peel (seven seats)

Eight candidates have been nominated: Katryna Baptist, Frank Crompton, Alistair Cubbon-Wood, Stuart Hardingham, Ray Harmer, Sharon Lambert, Christine Moughtin and William Otieno-Costain

Ramsey North Ward (six seats)

Eight candidates have been nominated: Emma Honey, Pauline Johns-Garrett, Juan McGuinness, Katrina Netelat, Andrea Nolan, Elizabeth Shimmin, Margaret Webb and Wilf Young

Santon (five seats): Ann Davidson, Glenda Hanson, Ned Kennaugh, Voirrey Kelly, Alison Parker

Ballaugh (five seats): Steven Curphey, Stephen Smith and Paul Weatherall were elected unopposed, leaving two seats vacant

Douglas Central Ward (three seats): Natalie Byron-Teare and Mark Wheeler were elected unopposed, leaving one seat vacant

Jurby (five seats): Philip Corkill, Yasmine Cowell and Darren Hope were elected unopposed, leaving two seats vacant

Port Erin (seven seats): Gerry Callister, Gary Chambers, Barbara Guy, Hannah Mackenzie, Hugo Mackenzie and Marc Morely were elected unopposed, leaving one seat vacant

Ramsey South Ward (six seats): Wendy Bruchal, Sandra Cottam-Shea, Norman Greenwood, Stella Moss and Alby Oldham were elected unopposed, leaving one seat vacant
