Holiday park set to expand despite objections

Plans to expand a holiday park have been approved by North Devon Council.

Mortehoe Parish Council opposed the proposals for 10 new lodges at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, and nine letters of objection were received, raising concerns about the impact on noise, light pollution and additional traffic.

Officers from North Devon Council approved the project, giving "significant weight" to a previous planning agreement from 2016.

Planning documents said the lodges would be placed at a low density around existing landscape features and trees to minimise the visual impact.

The 2016 application was for a five storey property with a swimming pool and an extra 50 lodges, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The council said the previously approved plans would have been at a significantly greater scale than the new holiday lodges.

In its opposition, North Devon Coast Natural Landscape said it was elevated site in an already highly-developed part of a protected, area and an open belt of land between the holiday park and nearby properties would be severely diminished.
