A man who died when the car he was driving crashed into a wall has been named by police.

Freddie Clarke, 26, from Baildon, was driving a Volkswagen Polo along Brighouse and Denholme Gate Road, near Queensbury, when it crashed off the road on Friday.

His family said in a statement: "We would like to thank all those who have offered words of comfort and support during this heart-breaking time."

West Yorkshire Police said the 54-year-old driver of a black Ford Fiesta, which is thought to have been involved in the crash, had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released on bail.

The force said Mr Clarke was driving away from Queensbury towards Denholme when the crash happened at about 19:20 BST.

Officers investigating the crash have appealed to anyone who saw either the Fiesta or the Polo prior to the collision to come forward.

Det Insp Paul Conroy said: "Our thoughts go out to Freddie's family at this tragic time."

"I would also like to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the circumstances prior to the collision."
