Horse put down after being hit by car in Lisburn

A horse has been euthanised after it was hit by a vehicle in Lisburn, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has said.

It happened on the Saintfield Road after 00:45 BST on Monday morning.

Police said the driver did not report any serious injuries but the horse was euthanised by an on-call vet.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (Daera) will be contacted by police to identify the animal's owner and remove the remains.

Daera has been contacted for a statement on the incident.
