Firefighters are tackling a large industrial fire in Nottingham.

The fire service said it deployed eight fire engines to a blaze in the Holgate Road area in The Meadows just after 21:00 BST on Saturday.

In a post on social media, the fire service said 10 crews were tackling the blaze.

It said its control room was dealing with a large number of calls about the fire and urged people to avoid the area.

The emergency service said an old commercial premises in a residential area had been severely damaged but no injuries had been reported.

Police said multiple properties in the area had been evacuated and roads had been shut.

The fire service said it was simultaneously dealing with a separate incident in Worksop where a terrraced house was destroyed by an explosion in John Street just before 20:00 BST on Saturday.
