Councils mull new contract for bins and waste
Four Surrey councils are set to discuss signing a contract with a new recycling, waste collection and street cleaning operator.
Since 2017, Elmbridge Borough Council, Mole Valley District Council, Surrey Heath Borough Council and Woking Borough Council have a joint contract with Amey LG Limited which expires in June 2027.
The £16.8m contract is managed by Joint Waste Solutions (JWS), a body made up of local government officers and members.
Ashley Tilling, an Elmbridge councillor and chairperson of JWS, says he hopes the new contractor will achieve "key objectives", including collecting an increased amount of food waste, recycling and reducing residual waste in rubbish bins.
He adds: "It is crucial that a rigorous procurement process for the appointment of a new provider begins in March."
JWS says it cannot confirm the cost of the new contract.
