A rapist who was arrested less than an hour after his crime was reported to police has been jailed.

Mulue Btseamlak attacked a 41-year-old woman in the Burngreave area of Sheffield in November 2022 and she "bravely" told officers the same day, South Yorkshire Police said.

Btseamlak, 29, was found guilty of rape after a five-day trial in September and was sentenced on Friday at Sheffield Crown Court to 12 years in prison.

Det Con Kevin Sibley, of Sheffield CID, said: "I am glad to see Btseamlak jailed for this horrific crime and hope during his years behind bars he reflects on the harm he has caused an innocent woman."

Btseamlak also received an indefinite restraining order preventing him from having any contact with the victim, the court heard.

Det Con Sibley added: "Btseamlak's victim showed great strength in reporting this crime to us on the day that it occurred and in providing evidence to support the prosecution.

"I am also proud of the officers for their prompt action which saw Btseamlak arrested less than an hour after his depraved actions were reported to us."

He added: "We thoroughly investigate all reports of sexual offences, whether they are made the day of the crime or are historic."
