A pub owner has said he wants to track down the person behind an "amazing" review who said he rated the gravy so highly, he wanted to pour it over himself and "writhe around the floor in a puddle of it".

Posting on Google, Jim B said The Gresley Arms in Alsagers Bank, Staffordshire, did "simple pub grub extremely well".

Owner Adam Woolliscroft said he was delighted with the feedback but would probably not encourage other diners to take up the reviewer's advice.

"If you want to, feel free," he laughed, "But you might make a mess."

The visit to the Gresley Arms is the fourth humorous Google review posted by the writer, and attracted nearly 600 reactions on social media.

A bearded man stands in a pub holding a pint. He is wearing a black jumper and dark blue jacket. The pub is decorated with leafy wallpaper and has a porcelain zebra head hanging from the wall inside a gold photo frame. There is a similar porcelain swan also hanging from the wall. Wooden chairs and table can also be seen.
Mr Woolliscroft said the review tells you "everything you need to know about the place", or at least about its chips and gravy

Jim B posted his feedback in mid January and referenced the snowy weather that swept the area at that time, saying he opted not to sample the cherry crumble to avoid getting stranded and left "looking for a barn to sleep in for the evening".

But he continued to write passionately about the main course, adding that the chips "reminded me of my Nan, God rest her soul".

However, the mystery reviewer does not always leave complimentary feedback.

He has previously slated an "absolute shambles of a McDonalds" and branded a recycling centre a "horrific place".
