Hull City Council says it is committed to tackling rough sleeping at its car parks

Extra CCTV cameras are being installed in a car park to address concerns around rough sleeping and anti-social behaviour, Hull City Council has said.

Fourteen cameras will be fitted at Osborne Street Car Park at a cost of £46,975.23.

The site, which is opposite a police station, has been blighted by anti-social behaviour since it was opened in 2018.

The cameras are being paid for by the office of the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner.

The Osborne Street Car Park has experienced multiple issues with rough sleeping, drug taking and anti-social behaviour since opening in 2018

In 2024, the BBC found drug paraphernalia, blood and soiled duvets at the site.

In 2022, human waste and beer cans were found in the stairwells, which led to councillors branding the situation a "disgrace".

A council spokesperson said: "Work has recently begun to install additional cameras in car park stairwells to address anti-social behaviour issues. The council were made aware of bedding items in the stairwell and immediately arranged for the cleaning team to attend.

"The council's homeless and rough sleeper teams and support agencies continue to work together to offer support to the individuals.

"We remain committed to ensuring our car parks are safe and regularly commission deep cleans of the sites, as well other methods, to combat unpleasant odours."
