Metro resumes after bridge crash and line damage
A suspension of Metro services caused by damage to an overhead line and a vehicle hitting a bridge has come to an end.
Trains were suspended between Heworth, in Gateshead, and South Gosforth, in Newcastle, from Thursday morning because of line damage in the Haymarket area and the Metro bridge in Felling being hit.
Operator Nexus said on Friday evening that it had repaired the damaged overhead lines and trains were now running to all stations.
However, it said it was not following the "normal timetable", but services were running approximately every 30 minutes.
"Trains will depart South Shields and St James at 26 and 56 minutes past the hour," the company said.
"Trains will depart the Airport towards South Hylton at 22 and 52 minutes past the hour."
It added the replacement bus service - number 900 - would continue to operate between Heworth and Regent Centre until end of service Friday.
Metro tickets are now no longer being accepted on local bus services.
