Urgent viaduct repairs cause train disruption
Train lines have reopened following urgent repairs due to a structural fault on a viaduct, causing delays between Brighton and Lewes.
Damage to the track was discovered during overnight engineering works, said train operator Southern.
National Rail said disruption was expected until 16:00 GMT.
Southern said: "Structural damage to the London Road Viaduct was discovered during overnight engineering work taking place in the London Road Brighton area last night."
National Rail said services were now able to run again between Brighton and Falmer and that delays, diversions, cancellations and alterations remained possible until further notice.
Tickets are also being accepted on Southern or Thameslink services to or from Brighton, including via Haywards Heath, and Brighton & Hove buses on routes between Brighton, Lewes, Seaford, and Eastbourne.
A National Rail spokesperson said: "Network Rail and structural engineers have attended and carried out repairs to make the viaduct safe.
"Whilst this was done, all lines over the viaduct were shut and no services able to run over it.
"Lines have since reopened and can now run normally again."
