Police were called to the A629 North Street after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a blue Nissan Qashqai just after 10:30 GMT on Thursday.
The woman, who has been named as Judith Abbs, 79, was taken to hospital where she later died. The driver stopped at the scene and the road was closed until the evening.
