A teenager who carried out 13 sexual assaults, including rape, on three victims has had his sentence increased.

Dominic Legg, from Hartlepool, was ordered to serve five years and nine months in a young offenders' institution by a judge at Teesside Crown Court last November.

Following a referral by the Attorney General, the Court of Appeal has now increased the sentence to eight years.

The 19-year-old will also remain on the sex offenders register for life.

Judges at the Court of Appeal in London have the power to increase a sentence if there are complaints the original one imposed was "unduly lenient".

Det Insp Lou Sproson, from Hartlepool CID, said: "I am pleased that Legg's sentence has been increased to reflect the nature and severity of his offending.

"This is welcomed by the officers who investigated the case and by the victims and their families."
