Woman hurt and dog killed by 'bull breed'

A woman has been injured and her French bulldog killed in a "horrendous" attack by a bull breed in Rotherham.
South Yorkshire Police said the incident happened on Laudsdale Road in East Herringthorpe at around 11:00 BST on Thursday.
The woman had been trying to save her pet when she was also mauled. Armed police contained the dog and it was taken to secure kennels.
The force confirmed that the victim needed hospital treatment for her injuries.
South Yorkshire Police added that the suspected bull breed had become loose, but its owner had been identified and had signed the animal over to police.
An investigation is now ongoing.
Chief Insp Emma Cheney said: "This is an horrendous attack that has killed an innocent dog and my thoughts are with its owner.
"Children were close by to this and witnessed the attack, but the reality is this could have been a fatality involving a child.
"We continue to see and respond to dangerous dogs posing a risk in our communities and something must change. It will only be a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously hurt, and owners must act."
