The closures are the next phase of resurfacing work on the A14 in Suffolk that began in 2024

A nine-mile (14km) stretch of a busy main artery will close for more than three months to allow for resurfacing work.

The A14 in Suffolk will shut westbound between 20:00 BST and 06:00 from junction 47a (Woolpit) to 43 (Bury St Edmunds) - from 22 April until 1 July.

The eastbound carriageway will then close between the same times and junctions from 2 July to 7 August.

National Highways said the work would "include resurfacing, renewal of road markings and replacing traffic signs".

Diversions will be put in place for the closures.

The westbound diversion will see traffic:

  • exit A14 at junction 51 (Beacon Hill)
  • travel along the A140 towards Scole
  • then along the A143 and A134
  • rejoin the A14 at junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds).

The eastbound roadworks will divert vehicles to:

  • exit A14 at junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds)
  • travel along the A143 to Scole
  • then south on the A140 to junction 51 (Beacon Hill)

National Highways said the work would provide "a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface".
