Surrey County Council are holding an event to help residents plan for later life

The number of people in Surrey who are worried about how they will pay for care in later life has increased, said a council.

Surrey County Council said four-fifths of residents are concerned about how they will fund support in retirement - which they said is up from two years ago.

The council and Age UK are encouraging people to attend a free event on planning for later life on 11 March at 11:00 GMT at Guildford Baptist Church or online at 19:00.

Topics will include paying for care, Power of Attorney and ways to stay independent for longer.

The council said they found around 300 to 400 Surrey residents a year run out of money to pay for their own care.

Councillor Sinead Mooney said: "By getting out into the community with information and support, we can help people make the right choices for them and avoid making decisions in a crisis which may not be suitable in the long run."
