Victoria Street will be closed on Saturday mornings as part of the trial

A pedestrianisation trial is due to begin on Saturday as part of a traffic improvement programme.

The lower part of Victoria Street, Alderney, would be closed to traffic between the Les Roquettes and Ollivier Street, the States of Alderney said.

The road will be closed from 09:00 until 13:00 GMT on consecutive Saturday's until, and including, 4 January.

The States of Alderney said it was intended to serve as a "soft opening" before an additional trial took place during the island's busier periods.

It added the community would have the opportunity to provide feedback.

Alderney's General Services Committee (GSC) agreed to implement the phased traffic improvement programme following a comprehensive consultation and a public survey.

Responses from the survey covered issues such as parking, the number and size of vehicles, policing, and abandoned vehicles.

Proposals were drawn up in consultation with the States Works Department and Bailiwick Law Enforcement and included short, medium and long-term solutions.
