Fire that ripped through pub's roof 'accidental'

A blaze that ripped through a pub's roof was an accident, firefighters said.

Crews and police were called to the fire in South Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, shortly after 14:30 GMT on Wednesday.

The blaze, which started in the pub's roof, was most likely caused by a naked flame igniting combustible materials, firefighters said.

In a post on social media, a spokesperson for Hogarths said the pub was evacuated safely and assured customers it would reopen "as soon as possible".

It also thanked emergency services for their quick response.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet and the aerial ladder platform to extinguish the fire before leaving the scene shortly after 18:30.
