Road reopens after man hurt in gas tanker incident

The incident has caused long delays on one of Northamptonshire's major routes

A major road has reopened following an incident involving a gas tanker in which a man was injured.

The east and westbound carriageways of the A45 between Riverside and Barnes Meadow Interchange near Northampton were closed at about 03:10 BST.

Northamptonshire Police said the incident happened on the eastbound carriageway and the injured man was taken to University Hospital Coventry.

All lanes of the carriageway are now open to traffic.

Traffic is now flowing in both directions

The police have responded to speculation on social media about the A45 incident being part of an emergency response training day.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: "I can confirm that the incident on the A45 this morning is not part of the major emergency exercise and is in fact a live police investigation."
