Cordon in place as gas leak near station made safe
Emergency services are responding to a gas leak in a building near Exeter Central train station.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called at 15:53 GMT to reports of gas leaking in a property on Queen Street.
Four fire engines and a specialist vehicle were sent to the scene.
The scene has since been made safe by West & West Utilities.
Dan Lawrence, Wales & West Utilities operations manager for Exeter, said: "On arrival, we found that individuals who had been inside the property had damaged a gas pipe causing it to leak.
"We have now been able to enter the property and isolate the leak."
Devon County Council Highways confirmed in a post on X that the previously closed roads have since reopened.
'Risk is low'
Matt Herdman, from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We've got concerns that should that gas ignite it may cause an explosion within the property.
"At the moment the risk is really low, we are holding people outside of the cordon.
"We have gas monitoring equipment in place which is giving no indication that the gas is leaking outside the room."
Train operator GWR said services between Exeter St David's and Exmouth were expected to be cancelled or delayed until 20:45 GMT.
A 100m (330ft) cordon has been set up around the area.
