Investigation as primary pupil brings knife to school

An investigation has been launched after a primary school pupil reportedly brought a knife into the building.
The Year Six pupil at Bridge Learning Campus in the Hartcliffe area of Bristol was found with the weapon on Friday, the school said.
No one was injured in the incident, with a spokesperson for the school telling the BBC "immediate action" was taken "in line with our established safeguarding procedures".
They added that cases like this were "incredibly rare" and would be treated with the "utmost seriousness", with parents encouraged to contact the school directly with any concerns.
In a letter to parents, headteacher Rupert Maule said pupils had told members of the school's leadership team that a Year Six pupil had brought a knife into school.
"This was reported to police, and a school investigation into the allegation started immediately," he added.
The letter also explained that statements had been taken from "a number of Year Six and Year Eight" children, and that the child concerned "is not in school and will not be for the foreseeable future while the investigation continues".
Avon and Somerset Police said it was not aware of anyone being injured, and officers had been to the school on Monday and Tuesday to speak to staff, parents and carers.
"Officers have ensured that appropriate information has been shared with partner agencies and that effective measures are in place to safeguard all children," the force added.
"High-visibility reassurance patrols have been conducted by our Neighbourhood Policing Team in and around the school area and enquiries are ongoing.
"We recognise how concerning an incident of this nature can be for parents, carers, and school staff. However, we would like to reassure them that incidents of this nature are rare."
