Justin McGarry, 35, from Warwick, sexually abused a child on multiple occasions over a four year period

A man who sexually abused a child over a long period has been jailed for nine years.

Justin McGarry, 35, of Emscote Road, Warwick, was found guilty of eight counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13 by a jury at Warwick Crown Court on 26 June.

Det Sgt Stephen Barr, of Warwickshire Police, said McGarry had caused the victim and their family "lifelong suffering".

The 35-year-old was sentenced at the same court on Monday and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

The force said an investigation was launched after it received a report of sexual offences against a child in the Leamington area in 2020.

It added that McGarry committed the crimes over a four-year period between July 2016 and July 2020, before he was arrested in August 2020.

Det Sgt Barr said the courage of the victim and their family had enabled the 35-year-old to be brought to justice.

He urged anyone who had suffered sexual abuse to not be afraid to tell someone.
